5.18.2010: Battery Replacement Program

Your Boogie Board Tablet contains a technician replaceable battery. Please do not attempt to replace the battery. Permanent damage to the product could occur. Improv Electronics offers battery replacement by our technicians free of charge. To take advantage of this service, send your Boogie Board writing tablet to Improv Electronics at the address below. A credit card number will be requested for return shipping when the battery replacement is complete. Improv Electronics disposes of the old battery in an environmentally-friendly manner.

The following terms & conditions apply to all products returned for battery replacement:

• You will receive your original unit or one that is remanufactured
• Units that have been subject to abnormal use and/or conditions are not eligible

4.7.2010: Expanded FAQs Provide More Info about Boogie Board Tablet Use and Features

The FAQ page (previously Common Questions) has been expanded to include in-depth answers to the questions we receive the most about the Boogie Board tablet. The answers also address some areas of confusion or misinformation that have appeared in online product reviews (consumer and media), blogs and Web sites:

• The Boogie Board tablet is like an Etch-a-Sketch (It’s quite different)
• Will a save feature be added? (Yes)
• A Boogie Board tablet with save will cost $50 (The price has yet to be determined)
• The contrast is poor (Contrast varies based on ambient light)
• The Boogie Board tablet scratches easily (Scratching under normal use is highly unlikely)
• Why is the battery non-replaceable? (The battery will last 6 years if the tablet is erased 20 times per day)

4.5.2010: KSU President Lefton, Congressman Ryan Champion Boogie Board Tablet’s Ohio Roots

Lester Lefton, Kent State University President (left), and Tim Ryan, U.S. Congressman (OH; right), proudly highlighted the Boogie Board tablet’s Ohio roots at a recent meeting of state leaders. The tablet is tangible evidence of the state’s expanding hi-tech sector and public-private collaboration. Kent Displays/Improv Electronics licenses the LCD technology used in the tablet from Kent State University. The LCDs are manufactured by Kent Displays/Improv Electronics at our headquarters in Kent, Ohio.

4.1.2010: Shipping to Europe, Australia Now Available for Purchases through Myboogieboard.com

The myboogieboard.com store has again expanded shipping options to include addresses in Australia, New Zealand and much of Europe. Available shipping methods to these countries are United States Postal Service First Class (no tracking) and Priority Mail (tracking).

3.18.2010: Tips for Keeping Your Boogie Board Writing Surface in Like-new Condition

Although the writing surface of the Boogie Board writing tablet is made from plastic, it does have a special polymer hard coating to prevent scratches and other wear-related blemishes. Factory testing of this coating has proven it extremely effective at preventing scratches from most writing/drawing instruments including the Boogie Board stylus. Still, to keep the writing surface in like-new condition, use only recommended writing instruments and clean the surface regularly with the included cleaning cloth. Sharp-edged instruments, and those that are harder than the polymer coating, can create permanent scratches and abrasions in the writing surface. These instruments should not be used.

Some online comments have cited “scratching” problems even though only the Boogie Board stylus was used. It is highly unlikely the writing surface is scratched. The perceived scratches are actually stylus residue created by the use of excessive pressure (often by very young children, see example below). This residue is typically removable with LCD cleaner (e.g., Monster™) or lens cleaner for plastic eye-glasses (ammonia and alcohol free). When using these products, do not spray the writing surface directly. This can cause penetration of the cleaning agent into electronics and other parts of the tablet and result in permanent damage. Instead, spray a small amount of cleaner onto the Boogie Board cleaning cloth and apply moderate pressure in a circular motion starting in the center of the writing surface working to the edges. Repeat as necessary until the residue is completely removed.
